A major new El Salvador shipping route has opened, connecting the Central American country directly to the United States and signalling growing international confidence in its ports.

Ocean Network Express (ONE) — one of the world’s six largest shipping lines, operating more than 230 vessels across 200 ports — has resumed operations at El Salvador’s port of Acajutla after a four-year absence. The carrier will run a weekly service connecting Acajutla directly to Los Angeles, eliminating the previous stops in Mexico or Panama and cutting transit times for importers and exporters.
Industry figures interpret the return as a sign of confidence in El Salvador’s economic growth and improved port operations. ONE specialises in refrigerated containers, opening opportunities for the country’s agribusiness and manufacturing exporters, particularly for food and temperature-sensitive goods bound for the US market.
