Hello, my name is Paul Brown. I am a UK native and a full-time professional Portuguese & Spanish to English freelance translator. I have a lifelong passion for the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world. Having spent a lot of my youth in Spain, and my university year abroad in Chile and Brazil, I nurtured my passion for and grasp and understanding of the languages and cultures, becoming fully trilingual.

Being a professional translator was always my ambition from an early age. Hence, after graduating from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Studies (with Portuguese) in 2013, I took up my first in-house role, translating business news media for international clients.

With 3 months of professional translation experience under my belt, I already felt well-equipped to embark on my freelance career. In the early stages of my freelancing, I was taking on all types of translation assignments. However, over time, I developed my specializations and true areas of expertise and interest: business, law, and marketing.

Throughout my 12 years in the industry, I have honed my skills and craft through the translation of over 6 million words. I have translated for global brands such as Stripe, Mapfre, Bloomberg, and Nissan, and national organizations and institutions such as Anvisa (Brazil), CONAGUA (Mexico), the National Statistics Institute (Spain), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Portugal).

I pride myself on my swift communication, readiness, and a dedication to delivering authentic, high-quality translations. I am very accommodating to client needs, whether that be tight deadlines or specific requirements.

I fully grasp the importance of producing accurate, error- and typo-free translations, and the additional need to return immaculate and presentation-perfect documents with mirrored formatting. Whether the required language variant is US or UK English, I am very well-prepared to deliver top-notch translations.

While artificial intelligence has its place in the translation industry (mainly for productivity purposes), it is far from the perfect solution, and the meticulous process of translation is always going to require a human touch. Human input is especially important when it comes to the target audience, choice and consistency of terminology, nuance, accuracy, and clarity.
